Wild & Wonderful Schoolyard is an outdoor education initiative based in Capon Bridge, WV. Members of this small, community oriented town formed a non-profit with the goal of creating enriching, restful outdoor spaces at the town’s elementary school for kids and other members of the town to explore and learn. After partnering with a educational landscape designer, this non-profit needed a simple brand package that reflected their values. Kate came to us primarily because of Valerie’s illustrative work, so we made sure that have that a central element for the branding.

The logo
We explored a couple of different directions for the brand icon, choosing to focus on a moment that we all felt communicated a meditative outdoor interaction: an outstretched hand, patiently waiting for a butterfly to settle onto it. It’s both a moment of tension as well as a moment of peace. What comes next is uncertain, but the possibilities are exciting.
Visual language
Tuppence Bold from Delve fonts was chosen as the display type for its friendly but sharp professionalism, while the playful rounded forms of Poppins act as a supporting typeface.
The illustrative forms were kept simple and soft, with minimal detail and rounded corners. Shades of green make up the color palette for Wild & Wonderful Schoolyard, much like the shades of green that drench the tree covered mountains Capon Bridge is nestled between.
