Janey’s Bread
Janey’s Bread is a bakery in Louisa, VA making beautiful wood fired goods with 100% regional grains. Owner and baker Janey Gioiosa gained a loyal following, regularly selling out at farmer’s markets, and wanted a brand identity to compliment the growing business her customers had come to love. Janey bakes food for her customers like they’re her family, and creating an intimate, familial experience became a major cornerstone of her new brand.
As big fans of Janey’s bread and pastries ourselves, we were more than a little excited when the opportunity to design this brand came our way. Did we do a little taste testing for inspiration? Of course. Did we write it off as a business expense? We’ll never tell.

The logo
The Janey’s Bread logo is based on the Art Nouveau inspired typeface Regrets, customized to be a bit bolder. The graphical element blossoming from the lowercase n—the Flaming Wheat, as we’ve come to call it—is just enough to convey “wood-fired bakery” while avoiding visual tropes common in bakery branding. The result is a logo feels elegant, handmade, and rustic without being kitschy.
Colors
Once we settled on a logo direction that worked, we developed a visual brand identity to support it. The color palette of Janey’s Bread is intended to take you right to the moment when Janey pulls your new favorite pastry from the oven that morning. Warm clay and orange hues, shared by the wood fire and wheat that are so integral to the food she makes, are playful and spirited. These form her primary colors while the caramelized purple that ribbons across the tops of croissants and the light blue from the edge of the early morning sky function as contrasting accents and background colors.
