Boxbuild is a new SaaS platform from the team behind BoxBoat, a cloud integration service company that was acquired by IBM. From building and testing code, to running security scans, even all the way through to deployment, BoxBuild is an all-in-one solution for developing software that is secure and compliant. This innovative tech startup came to us in need of a logo and visual identity to represent their brand in pitch decks while seeking funding. We designed a logo, icon, and visual identity system to get them off the ground.

The logo
The BoxBuild logo centers around our take on an impossible cube. The box-in-a-box (or is it a box-out-of-a-box?) icon was designed to communicate their “all-in-one” solution as well as security and stability. We kept the icon simple so it would work in a range of colors and set the logotype in a sans-serif with blocky characteristics and just the right touch of humanity.
Typography & colors
For brand typography, we paired the geometric, tech-forward Polymath with the warmth of Tome Sans. Polymath is used for display type and headlines, lending to a tone of security and trustworthiness, while Tome Sans’ humanist tendencies breathe some life into body copy. For captions, buttons, and call outs, Roboto Mono brings computer code to mind without making the brand overwhelmingly digital.
The color palette pulls on familiar blues of the startup tech industry paired with some unique bright accents. The salmon, yellow, and aqua accent tones keep the brand bright and airy, evoking BoxBuild’s refreshing take on the industry’s needs.
Brand application
We wanted to equip BoxBuild with a range of patterns and graphic applications to put their brand identity to use in their investor pitch decks as they seek funding. We repurposed the cube icon as tessellated patterns to apply to web and social graphics. It also became a cutout shape to mask photos and videos.
