Gayot New Version 1.1

Updated drawing, spacing, kerning, and OpenType Features

Our first typeface Gayot New has gotten its first update. If you’re new to the concept of font updates, the basic idea is that fonts are software, and as such, can (and should) receive continual improvements as technologies and skills change. As stated in our EULA and our licensing page, any license holder will receive updates for the style(s) they hold a license for free of charge.

Updates in version 1.1 include:

  • Better drawing and spacing
  • (vastly) improved kerning
  • Stylistic alternates
  • Case sensitive forms
  • Descenders added as default forms (forms with no descenders are Stylistic Set .ss01)
  • Much cooler comma/quotes/semicolon

If you hold a license for Gayot New, your original order link will now point towards the updated font files. If you got a license after April 24, 2023, you’ve already got the most recent version.

These updates may seem small, but we’re really happy with how it has progressed the quality and usefulness of this typeface. There are more plans for future styles to be added to Gayot New, so stay tuned for more! Full character set and OpenType features can be seen in the new PDF specimen.

How to update your fonts

You will need to uninstall the original version of the font and install the new update to see the changes. If you do that and still don’t see the new version, you may need to clear your font cache. If you’re not sure if you’re seeing the old version or the new one, check to see if the /g, /p/, or /y stick down below the baseline (new version has descenders) or if your comma is rounded (the old version has a straight comma).
