Murphy Beverage Co.

Murphy Beverage Co. is a speciality wine and beer shop in downtown Winchester, VA. Originally opened in 1997, it was recently sold to new owners who wanted to give the store a makeover. Murphy Beverage didn’t have official brand guidelines, or really an official logo, but the new owners wanted to honor the history of the store in the rebranding. Embracing some of the quirks of an old hand lettered sandwich board that sat in front of the shop every day for years, we created a new custom logotype. The illustrations from that same sign were cleaned up and repurposed alongside the logotype. The color palette is reminiscent of wine, beer and their respective ingredients. Inspired by the new owners’ care for the shop’s past, the typography conveys an old-world sensibility with a modern touch.
